| Heater Spear Assembly | | Here we have what has commonly become known as a heater spear. It can be used to heat WVO when making BioDiesel, or for warming the BD (or water) for the washing process. It is portable, can be used in an open head drum, or closed head drum. It fits through the 2 inch opening on a standard drum. When the pipe is run through a bung cap, it will make a pretty good air-tight seal. It has a 6000 watt element that can be wired for 110 or 220 volts. When wired for 110, it is 1500 watts. This allows for gentle warming in a drum without circulating. When used at 220, the oil should be circulating to prevent scorching of the oil. I have sold the special cap for a couple of years now for people to build the spear. Many have stated that I should offer the entire assembly as well. Here it is. It can be assembled with an elbow so that the element runs along the bottom of a drum, or made straight for larger containers (such as a tote). It is waterproof as well as oil proof. Height in the drum can be varied by simply putting a hose clamp around the pipe to keep it suspended at the level you choose. Care should be exercised when used in a plastic drum. You need to make sure that it does not touch the sides of the drum as it will melt a hole in it. That is the reason for the short pipe on the top. It runs in the same direction as the element, allowing you to know the location of the submerged element at a glance. |
